The FR-5 substrate is made up of woven glass reinforced material and an epoxy resin binder. It is a thermosetting fiberglass composite available in yellow-green-tan blended colour. The substrate has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 160° C (320° F), and the maximum operating temperature is 140° C (284° F).

FR-5 is a great option for multi-layer PCB designs. It has excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures and performs exceptionally well during the lead-free soldering process. It has a low dielectric loss and high chemical resistance with almost zero moisture absorption.

The FR5 glass epoxy laminate is one of the best materials for the automotive industry due to its improved Tg (glass transition temperature). It is well known for its high-temperature applications. FR-5 PCBs are often found in Antenna Isolators, Circuit board holders and Test boards, and Solder Frame applications.
